South Padre Island's long sandy beaches, salt air breezes, and outstanding activities make it a very popular resort destination. Padre Island is located on the tropical tip of Texas separated from the mainland by the Laguna Madre Bay and surrounded by the blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Here flip flops are the norm, attitude is relaxed and time pauses for our famous sunsets. There is a tropical small town atmosphere about South Padre Island that is charming and inviting. Padre combines Texas friendliness with coastal character to create a wonderful vacation environment.

Many guests visit South Padre to experience our world renouned fishing, or kiteboard and windsurf in the wide shallow bay. Other vacationers just frolick on our beaches and enjoy our comfortably warm water temperatures to surf, swim and play.

The island's subtropical environment offers 253 days of sunshine on average with summer temperatures ranging from 75-degree lows and 95-degree highs. Winter temps range between 55 degrees to 75 degress on average, offering the perfect year round climate.

Tourist seasons on Padre vary. The summer months of June, July and August are high season with the largest number of vacationers. Spring Break in March fills up quickly with both students and Texas families on break. April and May are wonderful times to visit when the beaches are less croweded and the weather comfortably mild. Fall months have many activities like Bike Week and SandCastle Days but, are often great times for couples and getaways with reasonable rates. The winter months are usually when guests from mid-western or northern states visit for several months. These "Winter Texans" enjoy our mild winters and welcoming environment.
